In September 2012, Middlesbrough College will not only open its very own dedicated Sixth Form Building (MC6) but it will also launch a new brand MC SPORT! MC SPORT builds upon an already successful vocational area (Sport, Travel & Public Services), which is a strong and prominent department within the College with excellent results. MC SPORT will boast a full size flood lit astro turf pitch and will also offer accessible changing facilities and a spacious bistro to chill out, relax and re-energise after exerting yourself.
All Middlesbrough College students will be able to access this brand new facility, located just across the road from our main building.
Also for September 2012, will be the relaunch of the Sports Academies, which are designed for 16-19 year olds and operate professionally to develop sporting excellence, nurture natural talent, aid personal development and support enrichment. Academy players must study a full time course at Middlesbrough College (you do not need to be studying on a Sports course) and the academy coaching consists of approximately 9 hours in total a week, which will include matches. Within the academy theoretical and scientific knowledge, nutritional advice, strength and conditioning training, biomechanical analysis, notational analysis and psychological aspects can be integrated into the programme. The academies have specific Nike sports kits which are to be purchased at the beginning of the academic year and each academy student will have access to free treatment from our Sports Injury Management & Prevention Clinic. Included within the academy will be options to gain national coaching and fitness qualifications and some academies already have links with National League teams.
