Clearing House Success
19 August 2010

The experience at Middlesbrough College has been that most students have secured places on their first-choice university courses.
However a small number of students have needed to use the ‘clearing house’ to secure places on a degree course. To assist these students, the College has experienced and dedicated staff ready and able to guide students through the system and help them to get that coveted place on a course.
Matthew Dalgarno is one student who has benefitted from this service.
Matthew had applied to and been rejected by two universities to which he had applied to do courses in Environmental Science, Management and Sustainability. Whilst he had had received an offer from Northumbria University, he failed to get the required grades.
Over the course of two hours, and with the help of the college and Connexions staff, Matthew navigated the clearing process and was offered a place at Salford University to study BSc Environmental Management.
“I am relieved to secure a place on a course that I want to do”, said Matthew. “I cannot thank the staff here enough for all their help”.
