First Aid Courses

Middlesbrough College is a fully approved First Aid provider accredited by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Our First Aid training courses are a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical sessions that are designed to develop ability and most importantly practical confidence.

Middlesbrough College is committed to delivering high quality First Aid training and offers a consultative approach to your training needs and includes courses to suit a wide range of audiences.

We use the very best instructors all of whom have a wealth of experience in their subject knowledge and come from an operational first aid background – including Paramedics, Nurses, Military Medics and Fire Fighters.

 
Appointed Persons Emergency First Aid Training

This 1 day course is for those businesses where there is no legal requirement for a First Aid at Work trained first aider however the HSE strongly recommends that an individual receives some first aid training. This training lasts for 6 hours and covers:

  • What should be done in a medical emergency
  • CPR
  • Dealing with an unconscious casualty
  • Control of wounds and bleeding

Certification is dependent on successful continuous assessment of the student, there is no formal final examination.

1 day course £35.00 per person including first aid manual and certificate

 
First Aid at Work Certificate

A full Health and Safety Executive (HSE) approved First Aid at Work course, in accordance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Once qualified, holders of this First Aid at Work (FAW) certificate can be used as First Aiders in the workplace in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. This course can be adapted to suit a particular audience, for example, teachers, office based or engineering staff. The FAW course is run over four days and includes both theory and practical sessions. By arrangement the course can be run on non-consecutive days, for example - one day a week over four weeks or two days on two different weeks.
The purpose of FAW training is to enable persons to practice first aid to the required standards to deal safely, promptly and effectively with injuries or illnesses which occur in the workplace.

The First Aid at Work course includes:

First Aid Priorities Common Illnesses
Managing Incidents Heart Attacks

Basic Life Support

Eye Injuries
Examination of a Casualty Dressings
Unconsciousness Recording and Reporting
Control of Bleeding Regulations
Fractures First Aid Kits
Burns and Scalds  

Students are independently examined on the final afternoon of the course. Upon successful completion certification is valid for three years.

The re-qualification course is held over 2 days and allows for re-certification of FAW certificate, the course covers the same topics as the full FAW certificate.

4 day FAW course £120.00 per person including exam, certificate and first aid manual.
2 day re-qualification course £65.00 per person including exam, certificate and first aid manual.
