Neil Maddison
Academy Director

Neil Maddison UEFA A Licence Coach, 19 years experience as a professional footballer making over 250 appearances at Middlesbrough FC, Southampton FC and Darlington FC. Neil has been a professional football coach for over 10 years having been involved in professional clubs, most notably Darlington FC where he held the roles of Manager, Youth Team Coach and Head of Youth Development. Neil is also a Futsal Coach level 1. Neil is also head outfield coach and Director at Premier Player Football Academy.

Rob Shaw
Football Coach

Rob at present works in a full time lecturing position in the Middlesbrough College Sports Department and has a strong background in Sports Coaching. Rob has played competitive football since a young age that has inspired him to develop a keen interest in coaching. Rob is qualified to FA level 2 with aspirations to progress up the coaching ladder and has professional experience in developing young players at academy level (Middlesbrough FC). Rob has also worked with recreational player’s overseas undertaking coaching work in the USA working in regions such as Texas and the New England.

Richard Bailey
Football Coach

Rich has played football for South Tyneside Town, then up to Wearside League at 16 and continued through to 18 Northern League onwards. Specialist in fitness and conditioning.

John Watson
Football Coach

John is currently working towards completion of his FA Level 2 Award and has completed his FA Youth Module Level 1 Award. John works as a Sport Lecturer within Middlesbrough College and has a strong background in Sports Coaching in the UK and abroad. John has played football competitively and still competes since a young age which inspired his early ambitions to coach.

John has coached within the Russell Foster Youth leagues for a number of years before embarking on a range of football and other sports coaching at the University of Sunderland. Additionally John has worked abroad in Northern America predominately in Canada across British Columbia coaching football/soccer. John has high ambitions to continue his football coaching development at Middlesbrough College and within the community to develop the next generation of footballing talent.



Mark Spencer
Football Coach

Mark Spencer is a UEFA B Licence Coach with 12 years coaching experience. Mark has completed his Full Youth Award and Futsal level 2 in 2015. He currently works for Middlesbrough FC as an Academy Coach at Rockliffe Park for the past 5 years developing potential Middlesbrough FC players. He currently coaches the Middlesbrough College 2nd Team while assisting other coaches in the MC Academy.

Mark has experience at Newcastle College as an Head Coach of the Football Development Programme as well as being a Lecturer in Sports Coaching for 3 years. Previously to this role he coached the Men's 1st team at Teesside University and won the Quadruple (Division 1, North Riding Cup, League Cup & Team of the Year) with Marton FC in 2008 at grassroots level. Mark also worked in the 2012 Olympic Games. Based in Newcastle he assisted the international players and coaches at the football training ground for teams such as Brazil, Spain, Mexico & USA.

Mark who is a past student, played 3 years for the Football Academy was offered a scholarship to play soccer in America by Rio Grande University (Ohio), but opted to stay in England to study coaching at Teesside University. Mark has ambitions to complete the UEFA A Licence and Futsal Level 3 in the near future.


Sammie Leighs
Ladies Football Team Coach

Sammie is a UEFA B licence coach and youth award coach with 10 years experience within the female game. Including Womens Premier League, Centre of Excellence and college football. Sammie has also completed a Sport and Exercise Science degree and PGCE.  Sammie is currently national manager for Homeless FA and Under 17 coach for Teesside Sport Girls Academy.
