Your Apprentice will be allocated a personal Middlesbrough College Assessor to support them throughout their training and to help them achieve their qualification. Our Assessors have been chosen for their expertise and industry background and provide a responsive service for both employers and learners. The majority of an Apprentice’s assessment takes place in the workplace.
Middlesbrough College supports hundreds of businesses every year with the recruitment and selection process of Apprentices.
Is There A Cost?
If your apprentice is aged 16-18 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship, they will be earning the apprentice national minimum wage which will be £3.30 per hour. As their skills develop, employers often increase the salary of their apprentice and the average weekly wage for an apprentice is currently £170.
For apprentices aged 16-18 this includes all their training – you do not need to pay any further training fees as these costs are met by the Government.
If your apprentice is 19 and over and not in the first year of their apprenticeship they will be earning the minimum wage for their age group, which is currently £4.98 for 18 to 20 year olds.
The rate for employees aged 21 and over is £6.19.
For those apprentices aged 19 and over, half the cost of the training is funded by the Government. The remaining 50 per cent is paid by the employer.
Is There Funding Available?
Funding may be available to support the cost of your apprentice’s training and their salary. Our apprenticeship team can discuss Apprenticeship funding with you and support you with eligibility criteria and how to apply.
A £1,500 AGE grant is available for employers with less than 50 employees who recruit a new apprentice aged between 16-24 years old. The AGE grant has helped thousands of businesses to grow and could benefit your organisation too. Local funding may also be available.*
